green and unknowing

Do you think I couldn’t see us
In the blues and yellows
Of yesteryear, when
I saw you more often than the clouds in the sky,
And we would greet each other more frequently
Than we would say goodbye?

Alas, one essential colour was missing
To create the colours on the rainbow.
The colours on the spectrum
Lacked life – red
Blood that I remember so vividly:
Draining from your face,
Except for your eyes,
Looking into mine, bloodshot
And heartbroken, God,

I see you now
Left behind
Drowning in the blues and yellows
Clinging onto an idealised memory
Fragmented pieces of me
That drag you down
Deep into the sea
Deep into
The blue and yellow fantasy

Escape the Night

Escape the nightlife,
The empty promises,
Endless dances around the truth,
To the beat of off-beat, out of sync hearts.

Join me under the stars, my dear.
Let’s look at the clouds
And appreciate the company of the moon,
Far, far away from the madding crowd.

Forgotten Baggage

With tears in his eyes
He stared out of the train window
At a world that passed him by
Ever so quickly.

He looked, and saw
The trees falling,
The grasses wither,
And the birds falling

So deeply in love
As they fly in pairs
Through the trees
And build their nests

So they may settle
In a home in the shade,
High in the green trees,
Away from all harm

Before they too, leave
For a better place
Where they will find their warmth
And final resting place.

The sun dried his tears
And a smile slowly spread across his face
As he turned into a bird
And flew to the horizon.

At Last

The music softly plays,
Its tune flows through the air
As I run my fingers through your hair.

It is my perfect place:
Of peace, comfort, it’s our cocoon
With our hearts beating to the same tune.

Your smell, and love, the trace
Left behind on my shirt and face;
After our far from final, perfect embrace.

01/06/2021 – Untitled Poem

My doubts could not stay silent,
And neither could I.

I could see the end coming,
And made a feeble attempt to hide;

Now in your mind,
It is I, that you despise.

The blame is not all mine,
As our actions were seen by four eyes.

We clung to each other and tried to tread lightly,
But we hung on too tightly.

Alas, now that we’re awake:
You are you,
And I am me.

16/01/2021 – Leaves

I just want to leave;
Disappear like the leaves
In the Fall and just
Give up on it all.
I just want to see the sun shine
In the Spring, and feel fine.
I want to see the flowers grow;
Watch the butterflies put on their show
As they dance in the sky above,
Proudly displaying their love.
I look forward to the Summer,
To walks in the park,
When I can hold you tightly in my arms.

But then Winter comes again,

And the leaves fade away.
But at least you’ll be there by my side,
Day after day.

23/06/19 – Heart

If home is where the heart is,

I’ve lost my heart not so long ago.

I’m asked,

Does it feel like home yet?

And I wonder,

Can’t they see this bloody hole in my chest?

It hasn’t healed over,

There’s been no stitches,

Not even a disinfectant.

I can see the infection,

Gnawing away at raw flesh.

Some days there is restoration,

Some nights there is none.

No comfort,

Rest,

When all that keeps me awake is a deep longing.

Alas,

It’s a reason to live.

To be whole,

Grow a new heart.
